The Medicine Hat Police Service laid nine mischief charges last week after a string of businesses were damaged. On Nov. 18, MHPS’s downtown patrol unit responded to multiple reports of property damage involving nine businesses located along the 400 block of N. Railway Street. Police estimate the damage to be approximately $70,000. Officers identified a suspect following an investigation, and a day later, Shannon Panipekeesick, a 42-year-old resident of Medicine Hat, was charged with six counts of mischief causing damage under $5,000, and three counts of mischief causing damage over $5,000. Panipekeesick was held for a judicial interim release hearing and she was subsequently remanded into custody to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice. 6
