BC Ferries cancels sailings during busy holiday break due to high winds

By Canadian Press on December 22, 2025.

VICTORIA — High winds in southwestern British Columbia have forced the cancellation of multiple sailings on a number of key BC Ferries routes.

BC Ferries says all sailings between the Metro Vancouver terminal at Tsawwassen and Greater Victoria’s Swartz Bay have been cancelled between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday.

Sailings have also been cancelled from Tsawwassen to Nanaimo’s Duke Point terminal, as well as for the route between Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver and Nanaimo’s Departure Bay.

Some other routes linking Tsawwassen with Mayne and Salt Spring islands have also been disrupted.

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for much of the B.C. south coast including Metro Vancouver and Sunshine coast, with gusts expected to reach speeds up to 90 km/h.

BC Ferries says a heavy snowfall warning for Haida Gwaii for up to 25 centimetres has also prompted the cancellation of sailings between Alliford Bay and Skidegate on Monday.
