newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com The Unison at Veiner Centre is hosting a free presentation and informative session in the new year that will focus on supporting caregivers and finding a better understanding of the toll of caring for a loved one. On Jan. 15 the free Caring for the Caregiver workshop will be held in the North MP room from 9:30 a.m. to noon, and will offer participants tools, resources and reassurance to help restore balance and improve personal well-being. The workshop will include a presentation from Trevor Moore, who is a caregiver support and burnout prevention expert, and will include Unison Connect Link Workers and Senior Supports. “Caring for someone you love can be both meaningful and exhausting,” reads a promotional description for the workshop. “Many caregivers put their own needs last, leading to stress, fatigue and burnout.” There are more than 30 spaces still open for the workshop. There will also be door prize draws and complementary beverages and snacks. Members and non-members are invited to call the Veiner Centre at 403-529-8307 to register for the workshop or in person at the reception desk. Trivia night Later in January the Veiner Centre will host a fun interactive night aimed to put the knowledge of participants to the test. Trivia Night runs Jan. 21 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Veiner Center and will be free for everyone to attend. The friendly competition advertises to put brainpower to the test and runs coincide with the Bistro’s Scottish Theme Night supper. Participants are asked to register by phone or by person. New Year’s Eve dance A reminder to shine off those dancing shoes and make sure you have purchased tickets for Newfie New Year’s Eve Dance beginning at 6:30 p.m. The dance includes live music from The Dance Man and an early countdown and champagne toast at 8:30 p.m. to ring in the New Year, Newfoundland style. The dance floor will be open until 10 p.m. and there will also be a light lunch offered at 9 p.m. 17
