Brooks RCMP are warning motorists to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary as road conditions in the area are deteriorating rapidly due to weather.

Police say highway and local road conditions have become increasingly dangerous since Wednesday with reduced visibility and slippery surfaces.

“For your safety and the safety of emergency responders, please stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary,” reads a press release.

Mounties also advise motorists who may be involved in a collision that it could take some time before emergency crews are able to reach you.

RCMP say if you must travel, make sure to dress for the weather, put on your head lights and give lots of space to other drivers while adjusting speed for the conditions.

Motorists can visit 511 Alberta for the most up-to-date information on current road conditions.
