SAHA Roundup: SAHA U18 women finish second at Mandi Schwartz Memorial tournament

The South Alberta Hockey Academy’s U18 women’s team finished second at the Mandi Schwartz Memorial tournament for a second-straight year.

They opened the tournament with a 3-1 win Thursday over the PWM Lloydmisnter Steelers.

Sara Stefanic, Kailey Karpan and Taylor Crocker each scored for SAHA, Kapri Coston had two assists. Mika Yokota made 17 saves.

They opened play Friday with a 7-2 win over the Winnipeg Avros U18AAA.

Kamryn Reiber had two goals and an assist, Hallie Parada had a goal and two assists and Danika Krooshoop scored twice. Crocker had a goal and an assist, Myla Motz found the back of the net and Coston had three helpers. Phoenix Buckler made 19 saves in the win.

SAHA blanked the U18AAA Saskatoon Stars later in the day with Yokota stopped all 30 shots she faced. Crocker scored all three of SAHA’s goals.

They beat the U18AAA Eastman Selects 9-2 on Saturday to punch their ticket to the final. Motz had a hat trick, Reiber and Crocker each scored twice, Coston had a goal and an assist and Teagan Torgerson had a solo tally. Ava Gingell had two assists and Buckler picked up the win in net with 20 saves.

They lost 4-2 in the finals Sunday to the Edmonton Jr. Oilers. Crocker scored both SAHA goals, Yokota made 28 saves.

The next CSSHL game for SAHA’s Women’s team is Jan. 9 and 10 against the Northern Alberta Xtreme at the Big Marble Go Centre and Moose Rec Centre.

U18

SAHA’s U18 men’s team hosted the Prairie Hockey Academy on Friday, winning 4-2.

Kutcher Aquila had a goal and an assist and all three of Damen Vanderbeke, Karter Kurpjuweit and Kingston Chisholm found the back of the net.

Cash Christie made 27 saves.

SAHA carries a six-game win streak into a mini holiday break before they head to Calgary for the Circle K Classic U18AAA tournament starting on Dec. 27. They open the tournament’s round robin against the Calgary Northstars before facing the Vancouver NE Chiefs on Dec. 28. Their final round robin game comes Dec. 29 against Lake Forest Academy.

SAHA enters the tournament looking for a third championship at the six-day event.

U17

SAHA’s U17 men’s team had just one game, beating the Pilot Mound Hockey Academy 6-3 on Friday for a fifth-straight win.

Briggs Fabro had two goals and an assist, Liam Green scored twice and Nixon Bettenson had a goal and three assists. Juris Busse had a goal and two assists and Chase Neilson made 34 saves.

The U17 men’s team (9-3) was on the road Tuesday taking on Calgary International Academy in a game that was not complete by press time. They host NAX on Friday and Saturday at Big Marble Go for a 7:45 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. game respectively.

U15

The U15 men’s team beat the Notre Dame Hounds 10-4 on Saturday.

Max Thielen had a hat trick, Carter Jarvis had a pair of goals with an assist and Carson Caouette had a goal and two assists. Nash Davis tallied a goal and an assist and all three of Cooper Conway, Waston Haslbeck and Kyan Vansandt had a goal. Mark Ma had three assists, Cole Anderson made 10 saves.

SAHA’s U15 men’s team (9-8) are on the road tonight against Calgary International Hockey Academy.
