newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com The Medicine Hat Police Service has charged two Hatters after responding to a disturbance Sunday involving weapons. A 35-year-old Nickolas Petke and 49-year-old Ghulam Faqeri are facing several weapons related charges after police arrested the duo and conducted a search at a home which led to the seizure of a loaded 12-gauge shotgun, a machete and previously reported stolen property. On Sunday morning at approximately 11:40, police responded to a disturbance involving weapons in the 00 block of 9 Street SW where the two suspects were arrested at the scene. With assistance from the Criminal Investigation Section, officers obtained a residential search warrant for the premises and a search led to the discovery of the stolen items and weapons. Petke has been charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of a firearm without a license, using a firearm while committing an offense and disobeying a court order. Faqeri has been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and failure to comply with a probation order. Both suspects were held for judicial interim release hearings. Petke was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before courts on Dec. 23 while Faqeri was remanded into custody with a court appearance scheduled tomorrow. 9
