Brooks Mountie faces assault charges stemming from off-duty incident

Cpl. Michael Hagel, 40, has been suspended from duty with pay after RCMP began an investigation into off-duty conduct.

On Nov. 20 RCMP opened the investigation which led to Hagel being charged with assault and assault by choking.

Hagel was released on a release order after a hearing and is scheduled to appear before court on Jan. 7.

Hagel has been a member of the RCMP for nine years.

RCMP will not be providing anymore details as the matter is now before the courts.
