newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Kaiden Smith, 19, of Medicine Hat faces three charges following a stand-off with police after officers responded to a report of a dispute with a weapon at a home in the 600 block of Eighth Street SW. Upon arrival on Nov. 27 at 10:30 p.m., officers were able to confirm that Smith was alone in the residence and that any victims or witnesses had left the home. Following multiple attempts to communicate with Smith that were unsuccessful, members of the MHPS Tactical Team and Negotiator Team were deployed to the scene. Smith was later located within the residence and taken into custody safely without injuries. Following the investigation, Smith has been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, resisting arrest and five counts of disobeying a court order. Smith was held for a judicial interim release hearing and has been remanded into custody where he was set to appear before court on Monday. Police say no injuries were reported by victims or witnesses at the scene. 9
