The Medicine Hat Firefit Team Iron Horse represented the community at the national championships in September, capturing a championship and setting a new record.
The Firefit team competed at the National Firefit Championship Finals, held in St. Catharines, Ont. from Sept. 10-14.
Steven Seymour, Jason Labash and Michael Arnold were crowned national Firefit champions in the Over-40 Team Event, Over-40 Relay Event and Over-40 Tech2 Event.
The Firefit team delayed the announcement and public celebration while awaiting confirmation of a new record, achieved by Labash and Seymour in the Over-40 Tech2 Event.
Dylan Yanke and Nathan Jerry, placed third in the Open Division Tech2 and set a new team record in the process.
Leading up to nationals, Firefit member Josh Fauth posted a blazing time of 1:24.80 during the wildcard day earning the title of Medicine Hat Firefit Team’s fastest individual for the 2025 season. An injury just before the official national competition prevented him from competing further.
“We train year round to be the best possible version of ourselves, not only to compete, but to serve and protect our community. Standing on a national podium representing Medicine Hat is a privilege we do not take lightly,” a Firefit release read.
“To our sponsors and the Medicine Hat community, thank you for your belief in us and your unwavering support.”
