newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Members of the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team are investigating RCMP’s use of force of a female who was in custody at its detachment in October. According to a press release, Mounties in Gleichen arrested a female for mischief during the evening of Oct. 30 at 9:50 p.m. On being arrested the female suspect had visible blood on her face and told officers she had been assaulted. While in custody, an officer told the female that EMS would be called to examine her injuries. Officers then took the female to the Gleichen detachment, arriving 14 minutes later at 10:04 p.m. and the female again requested for an ambulance and was told one had been called. Officers then brought the female into the cells while handcuffed behind her back. While requesting the female to remove her shoes, the female responded by swearing and asking again for medical addition. The female then turned away from the officer who grabbed her arm and kicked her legs out from under her. The female landed on the ground, striking her face. The province says EMS arrived a short time later, however the amount of time has not been made public, and tended to the females injuries which include a lost tooth and cut on her upper lip. ASIRT says its members began investigating the officer’s use of force on Oct. 31 and will not be releasing further information at this time. 10
