newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Three local non-profit agencies are recipients of a $270,000 donation from Acciona Energia, which operates the Forty Mile Wind Farm, as part of its Social Impact Management strategy. Acciona Energia said this year the Root Cellar Food & Wellness Hub, Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society and Forty Mile Regional Family Community Support Services will share funds for various projects. The Root Cellar will use its donation to instal solar panels to offset energy costs, saving on utility bills in the future. Funding provided to the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society will be used to renovate the first aid room, children’s activity area and family room. The Forty Mile Regional Family Community Support Services, located in Bow Island, will use the donation to support its Holiday Meal program and to support its Meals on Wheels program, which delivers healthy affordable meals to aging adults. Acciona Energia is committed to delivering tangible, positive impact in every community where it operates,” said spokesperson Gerardo Santos. “Through its comprehensive Social Impact Management model, the company prioritizes dialogue, shared value creation and long-term local development.” The company aims for its donations to foster community development, education and environmental sustainability in southeast Alberta. 9
