SAHA U18 men’s team records pair of weekend wins at Big Marble Go

The South Alberta Hockey Academy’s U18 men’s team picked up a pair of weekend wins.

SAHA beat the Edge School 3-2 on Saturday before blanking Rink Academy Winnipeg 4-0 on Sunday.

Kutcher Aquila scored the game winner Saturday, adding an assist to his tally. Damen Vanderberg and Dylan Sherban each scored, Medicine Hat Tigers’ prospect net minder Cash Christie made 28 saves in the win.

Hunter Zawislak held his own between the pipes in Sunday’s shutout, stopping all 24 shots he faced. SAHA had four goal scorers with Ryker Klassen, Vanderberg, Ty Wasyluk and Braden Hordichuk each scoring.

The next CSSHL games for SAHA’s U18 men’s team (11-4) is Dec. 2 and Dec. 5, both on the road.

U18 Female

The U18 women’s team had three games over the weekend. They dropped the first contest, falling 4-2 Friday to Delta Hockey Academy Black, before blanking the North Shore Warriors 2-0 on Saturday and ending the weekend with another shutout, a 7-0 win Sunday over the Shawnigan Lake School.

Teagan Torgerson and Sara Stefanic scored for SAHA in Friday’s loss, Phoenix Buckler made 13 saves.

In Saturday’s shutout win, Mika Yokota stopped all 14 shots she faced. Teylor Crocker and Hallie Parada each had a goal and an assist.

Yokohama stopped 26 shots in the shutout-win Sunday, her second blank spot of the weekend. Myla Motz scored twice, Crocker, Kamryn Reiner and Maria Focca each had a goal and an assist, and both Torgerson and Riley Bourque had a solo marker.

SAHA’s U18 women’s team (6-8) has four games on the road this weekend.

U17

The U17 men’s team swept their weekend on the road, outscoring their opponent 25-8.

SAHA beat the Indigenous Sports Academy 15-3 Friday, topped the Notre Dame Hounds 6-2 Saturday before beating the Prairie Hockey Academy 4-3 Sunday.

In the blowout win Friday, Carter Gilchrist led the way with four goals. Liam Green had a hat trick with two assists, Nixon Bettenson had a pair of goals with four assists, Briggs Fabro had a goal and four assists, and Brendan Espersen had a goal and two assists. Lucas Fisher and Juris Besse each had a goal and an assist, and both Dalin Nixon and Cohen Goluboff-Munro had solo tallies. Chase Neilson made 23 saves.

In Saturday’s win, all four of Owen Fisher, Eric Schrock, Gilchrist and Busse had a goal and an assist. Fabro and Bettenson each scored, Paxton Smigelski made 23 saves.

Oakland Black had a goal and an assist in Sunday’s win and all three of Bettenson, Madden Wright and Fabro scoring solo tallies. Nielson made 37 saves.

SAHA’s U17 men’s team (7-3) has one home game this week, hosting the Notre Dame Hounds on Friday at the Big Marble Go Centre for a 7:45 p.m. contest.

U15

SAHA’s U15 men’s team faced OHA Edmonton in a pair of games, falling 7-3 Saturday before losing 4-2 Sunday.

Mason Bryksa had a goal and an assist in Saturday’s loss and both Mark Ma and Rowan Oddie each scored. Patrick Curtis made 26 saves, while Cole Anderson also worked into the game to make seven saves.

Oddie led the offence Sunday with a goal and an assist, Fletcher Aadland had a solo tally. Anderson made 46 saves.

The U15 men’s team (7-9) is on the road Sunday.
