A recall petition has been issued for Grande Prairie MLA Nolan Dyck.

The petition was received by Alberta’s Chief Electoral Officer Gordon McClure and it has been determined to meet the requirements. The petition has been issued and the Notice of Recall Petition was published on Elections Alberta’s website.

Submitted by applicant Casey Klein, the petition will need to acquire 9,427 votes to be successful, 60% of the total number of votes cast in the most recent election in the electoral division.

Dyck has submitted a response statement, in which he reaffirmed his commitment to “fight for safer communities, a strong economy, lower taxes and lasting opportunities for future generations” and stated that his voting in legislature directly advances these priorities.

Moving forward, Klein will need to register canvassers and collect signatures in person over the course of the next 90 days. All signatures must be submitted by Feb. 19, with the petition being verified by March 13.

Results will be reported by March 20 to the petition applicant, the named member, the party leader and the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, as well as published on the Elections Alberta website.
