Proceeds from performance of A Christmas Carol will support West African orphanage

By Medicine Hat News on November 21, 2025.

In support of the Teega Wende orphanage in West Africa, a Dickens of a Christmas returns to Medicine Hat.

The performance of Charles Dickens’ seasonal tale “A Christmas Carol” will be presented by Canadians Reaching Out to the World’s Children, a Medicine Hat-based charity with more than 20 years’ involvement supporting children in need and their families.

The proceeds of the event will go toward support of the orphanage, which is located in Burkina Faso, West Africa. CARO has worked with the orphanage since 2004 and their fundraising has supported more than 200 children, both within the building as infants and within the surrounding foster network.

The presentation takes place from 2-4 p.m. at St John’s Church on Dec. 7, and a freewill offering will be taken at the performance. As CARO is a registered charity, it provides charitable receipts for donations of $20 or more as well as a matching program to double contributions through the kindness of advance donors.
