Medicine Hat Giant Tiger location closing in January

The Giant Tiger on 13th Avenue in Medicine Hat is closing its doors in January.

The discount retailer posted a sign on its door this week notifying customers that it will cease operations on Jan. 24, 2026.

“The decision to close any of our stores is not taken lightly and is made with careful consideration and thorough analysis,” said a spokesperson for Giant Tiger in a statement to the News.

The spokesperson says Giant Tiger is working directly with impacted employees, and that their focus is ensuring staff are supported at this time.

Last year, Giant Tiger closed several stores in the prairies, including the location in Swift Current and one of three in Saskatoon. In a statement to CTV at the time, Giant Tiger said those locations failed to meet the franchise business model.

Giant Tiger declined to comment on the reason for the Medicine Hat closure.
