Two Hatters will be vying for the Vanier Cup this weekend.

A former Monsignor McCoy Colt and a Medicine Hat High Hawk are part of the Saskatchewan Huskies who will face the Montreal Carabins in the 60th Vanier Cup on Saturday at Mosiac Stadium in Regina.

Freshman defensive lineman Kai Kukurudza has played three games for the Huskies this season after years of donning the McCoy Colts’ red.

His last game was in the Hardy Cup on Nov. 8 when the Huskies beat the Regina Rams 25-24. He had a tackle and a forced fumble in the win. On the season he’s recorded four solo tackles and six tackle assists in three games.

The Huskies also have former Hat High Hawk, Chris Lambiris, on their coaching staff. The Hatter serves as the program development and player personnel director for the Huskies.

The University of Saskatchewan beat the Queen’s Gaels 22-11 in the Mitchell Bowl on Nov. 15 to earn their spot in the Vanier Cup.

Montreal beat the Saint Mary’s Huskies 49-19 on the same day in the Uteck Bowl.

The national championship contest will serve as the Huskies third appearance in the U SPORTS title game in the past five seasons and just the second-ever meeting with the Carabins.

Kickoff for the Vanier Cup is 1 p.m. on Saturday.
