The Medicine Hat Tigers popped off offensively Wednesday night in Cow Town.

A three-goal third period and a pair of multi-goal efforts from Kadon McCann and Markus Ruck propelled the Tigers 6-2 over the Calgary Hitmen. Wednesday’s win is the first of a four game in five nights stretch that sees the Tigers face Calgary three times.

They got on the board first in the mid-week action with a redirection goal from Kade Stengrim 5:07 into the game. He tipped in a point shot from Bryce Pickford for his fourth of the season, Jonas Woo had the second assist. Woo’s assist gives him points in seven straight games.

The Tigers struck again early in the second with another redirection. Kadon McCann got a low tip-in off a point shot from Kyle Heger for the 2-0 lead 1:33 into the middle frame.

Calgary responded a little under three minutes with a power play goal from Keaton Jundt. Calder Hamilton and Hunter Aura had the assists.

The Tigers rattled off a pair of goals in the second period for a 4-1 lead through 40 minutes. Overage defenceman Josh Van Mulligen fired a shot from the high point that found the back of the net at 7:29 for his first of the season. They nabbed an insurance marker with 2:19 left in the period  on McCann’s second of the night. The 18-year-old Cochrane product fired a shot from the bottom of the circles to beat starter Eric Tu for his second of the night and his sixth of the season.

Medicine Hat added to their lead early in the third. Markus Ruck skated out from the corner to the left of Tu and beat the Calgary net minder with a shot from the top of the crease. His first of the night put the Tigers ahead 5-1 two minutes into the period and ended Tu’s night with five goals against on 26 shots. Aidan Hesse took over in the Hitmen net, making seven saves in 18 minutes of play.

Tigers’ starter Carter Casey stood tall to start the third period, turning aside a pair of chances on a Calgary power play before the Hitmen struck for a second time. Luc Trevors knocked in a loose puck on a Hitmen rush to make it a 5-2 game 5:29 into the third. Casey remained perfect after that, finishing the night with 26 saves to record his fourth win on the year.

Markus Ruck capped off the night with his second on the contest, getting the final touch on a wave of chances. Liam Ruck threw a puck on net that found Pickford’s stick who fired it back towards the net, bouncing off Markus and past Hesse for the eldest Ruck twin’s fifth of the season.
