The Medicine Hat U16B Mustangs captured gold at the Lethbridge Bridge Battle tournament over the weekend.

The Medicine Hat U16B Mustangs returned home golden from a tournament in Lethbridge.
The Mustangs finished first at the Lethbridge Bridge Battle ringette tournament, finishing a perfect 4-0.
They opened the tournament with a 9-8 win against Buffalo Plains. Breanna Lanuk led the way with a hat trick and an assist while Margo Kerr and Kassidy Etienne each had two goals and an assist.
Tia Van Maarion and Lacey Gibney each added a goal and two assists. Rielle Forsyth and Onyka Funk also added helpers. Jacqueline LeBlanc played between the pipes.
In their second game the Mustangs came out with a 5-2 win over the host Lethbridge. Lanuk again powered the offence with a hat trick and an assist, Kerr and Funk each added a goal. Van Maarion provided a helper and Emma Pinnell was in net.
The Mustangs played South Calgary Saturday night and came out with a 6-2 victory. Lanuk scored four goals and both Gibney and Kerr each added a goal. Madison Helgeson and Etienne each added helpers, LeBlanc stood tall in net.
The tournament final was a rematch between Buffalo Plains and the Mustangs, with Medicine Hat’s offence exploding for a 12-6 win.
Lanuk delivered a six goal performance with Van Maarion scoring a hat trick. Gibney added two goals and Margot Kerr had a solo marker. Helgeson was a top playmaker, adding six assists with Gibney, Lanuk and Kerr also adding assists. Pinnell played in net.
The Mustangs look to carry the momentum forward as they continue their season, proving a small group is capable of battling and winning against tough competition.
They’re off until the Ed Horvath Tournament Dec. 5-7 in Medicine Hat.
U14
The Medicine Hat U14B Mustangs were also at the Bridge Battle tournament over the weekend.
Dannalee Sawchuk stood tall in net for all four games. The weekend started with the first game against Lethbridge ending in a 7-7 tie.
Kassidy Etienne, Rielle Forsyth and Haven Ward found the back of the net in the first period, followed by three more goals from Etienne in the second period, Jorja Sadler also scored. Etienne, Ward, Sadler, Brinley Cross and Myah Weber each had assists.
They faced Calgary South in the second game, falling 8-7. Etienne scored four times, Sadler tickled twine twice and Ward scored a solo marker. Six Mustangs had assists, Cross, Sadler, Ward, Katie-lee Sehn, Myah Weber and Rielle Forsyth.
On Saturday, in their third game, the Mustangs lost 4-6 to Calgary Bow View. Etienne scored twice and both Cross and Weber scored. Sadler, Weber, Etienne and Charlie Singh had assists.
The final game of the weekend against Calgary Bow View on Sunday ended with an intense overtime period. Medicine Hat fell short 6-5. Cross scored three times, had a pair of goals with an assist by Jorja Sadler.
Next weekend the Mustangs head to Calgary for a pair of games against Calgary NorthWest.
U10
The U10 Step 2 Mustangs were in Lethbridge for the Bridge Battle.
On Friday against Foothills Ashlee Dupuis was in net for the first half and Teagan Forsyth was in net for the second half. Olive Roste and Addison Clegg each scored twice, Sadie Ryks had a goal.
They faced Bow View on Saturday, with Talia Chartrand and Kylie Klaudt splitting duties in net.
Later in the day Saturday they faced the Lethbridge Blue. Ryks was in net the first half, Clegg was in net for the second half. Morvik scored three times and both Roste and Klaudt each scored.
They finished the weekend against Lethbridge Yellow. Dupuis was in net for the first half, Morvik was in net for the second half. Clegg scored twice and Klaudt scored once.
No scores were reported.
The Medicine Hat Mustangs U10 Step 3 team were also at the Lethbridge Bridge Battle tournament this past weekend.
In their opening match against Lethbridge, the Mustangs battled hard but fell 9-5. Adelynn McKinley led the scoring with two goals, supported by Everley Cross, Laila Loehndorf and Gabriella O’Reilly adding solo markers. Lily Steiner, Miriam McClung, Laila Loehndorf and Brielle St. Laurent contributed assists. Goalie Ridley Trotter kept the team in the game with saves in the second period.
The Mustangs faced Calgary Bow View next and were outscored 11-3. McKinley and Gabriella O’Reilly found the net, with assists from Rozlyn Moch and Brielle St. Laurent. Brielle assisted again in the second period when McKinley added another goal. Laila Loehndorf made several stops in net despite the loss.
In their third game against South Calgary, the Mustangs showed resilience but fell 9-3. Scoring in the second period were Moch and Rowyn Greenlay, with assists from O’Reilly and St. Laurent. Kylee Drever guarded the net.
The final game, a rematch with South Calgary, ended 9-5. Laila Loehndorf scored a first-period goal with an assist from Lily Steiner. The second period saw goals from Loehndorf, Everley Cross, and McKinley, with Loehndorf and O’Reilly recording assists. Goalie Kylee Drever kept the team competitive throughout the match.
The Mustangs leave Lethbridge with valuable experience for their next away games on Nov. 29 at Bob Snodgrass Rec Centre and Okotoks Rec Centre, facing Foothills.
Open
The Medicine Hat Open B Smash competed in the Bridge City Battle in Lethbridge on the weekend.
The Smash cruised through the first two games, defeating Calgary Force 7-1 and Lethbridge Rattlers 9-3. The Smash went on to face Calgary Summit, who are undefeated in CORL league play, on Saturday night and fought to a 6-6 draw. On Sunday The Smash once again played Summit in the gold final, prevailing 3-2.
They saw balanced scoring from the entire team. Heather Kempthorne had seven goals and five assists, Kayty Leidal had five goals and four assists, Mahala St Jacques scored four times and had five assists, Hannah Thompson had a pair of goals and four assists, Allison Mason had a trio of goals and two assists, Sofie Kerr scored twice and had three assists, Lindsay Hart scored twice and added two assists. Paige Schreiber had five helpers and Pacie Harper had four assists.
