GEORGE KOWALCHUK

GEORGE KOWALCHUK 1938 ~ 2025 George Alexander Kowalchuk, born in 1938 in Three Hills, Alberta, passed away peacefully in Medicine Hat on November 10, 2025, at the age of 87 years.
In 1963, George met the love of his life, Vera Cunningham, together, they shared 60 wonderful years of marriage.
George and Vera began their family in Rockyford, Alberta, where George worked for Alberta Wheat Pool. They welcomed their first son, Randall, in 1965, followed by Richard three years later. In 1970, they adopted Juline, completing their family. In 1973, the family moved to Rainbow Lake, where George worked for Aquitaine and earned his 2nd Class Steam Engineer diploma. This achievement led to a long and fulfilling career with Shell Canada in Peace River, Alberta. Later in life, George and Vera settled in Medicine Hat, where he worked at Chinook Village as a maintenance man.
He loved helping his children with home projects, repairs, and yard work. He volunteered at the Esplanade and Medicine Hat Hospital and was always ready to lend a hand to neighbors, especially when it came to snow shoveling.
George will be remembered for his hard work, sense of humor, and deep love for family. He cherished time with his grandchildren; Braedon (Chalenne), Jordyn (Cole), Georgia, Grace (JP), Jameson, and Benjamin, and was excited for the arrival of his first great-grandchild in February 2026.
He is survived by his beloved wife Vera; his children, Randy (Laura), Richard (Lenore), and Juline (James); his grandchildren, and siblings, Catherine, Roy, Geraldine, Rosalie, and John. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Susan Kowalchuk (Zak); brothers, Lucas, Louie, Peter, Kenny; and sisters, Jean and Donna.
In his later years, George faced Alzheimer’s with grace and continued to share his warmth and sense of humor with everyone he met. His legacy of love, laughter, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

JOYCE WOOLLEY


JOYCE WOOLLEY February 6, 1937 ~ October 17, 2025
Eleanor Joyce Woolley, daughter of Norman and Ada (nee Hawthorne) Woolley, was born on February 6, 1937, in Medicine Hat. Her surviving family remember her as an exotic, elegant and classy big city girl. She had left home while the first of her nieces were very young, so while a country girl at heart, Aunt Joyce was a celebrity in their eyes. She had attended Feldman Lake School (a one room country school) and then went to Alexandra High School in Medicine Hat.
Joyce joined the Canadian Air Force where she was a radar operator. After the Air Force, Joyce worked for The Bell Telephone Company in Toronto, then at Canada Life Insurance in Toronto for 23 years. She moved to Tottenham, Ontario where she worked briefly in a market garden. Joyce was well known for her love of birds, peonies and day lilies. She decided to take a course in health care and worked at Good Samaritan Home until she retired.
Joyce is survived by four nieces, Marjorie (Les) Wonnenberg, Carol Franz, Shirley Maurer and Janice (Larney) DeBoer; one nephew, Calvin (Melissa) Boschee as well as numerous cousins and extended family in Ontario and Alberta. Joyce is also fondly remembered by her good friends, Joe and Sharon Duggan.
Joyce was predeceased by her parents, Norman and Ada; sister, Jean (John) Boschee; partner, Elwin “Slim” Tassie as well as her niece, Joanne Krutzler.
Honouring Joyce’s wishes, she will be laid to rest with her parents at Hillside Cemetery at a later date.
The family wishes to acknowledge Dr. Joanna and the caring staff at Simcoe Manor in Nottawasaga Wing, Dr. Lewis at Stevenson Memorial Hospital, Bryce Giroux (Jason Smith Funeral Chapel), Scott at Rod Abrams Funeral Home and Cook Southland Funeral Chapel in Medicine Hat for completing Joyce’s journey home. ALICE REILING 1925 ~ 2025 Alice Reiling, beloved wife of the late Philip Reiling, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the age of 99 years. She leaves to cherish her memory six children, Diana Wenzel, Loral (Pearl) Reiling, Lola (Jack) Bennett, Vern Reiling, David Reiling, and Murray Reiling; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents Otto and Emma Rasch; her son, Ken Reiling, and her grandson.
