Thursday in Medicine Hat will go down as one of the warmest Nov. 13s on record.

At a high of 20.9 degrees Celsius, the city was just 0.2 degrees short of the all-time record of 21.1 degrees, on Nov. 13, 1934, according to data from Environment and Climate Change Canada.

It was the warmest day in the forecast, but so far Hatters have enjoyed a balmy autumn. According to the deterministic forecast from Environment Canada, the trend is set to continue, with temperatures averaging above normal through November, December and January.

It’s a major anomaly from the typical forecast for this time of year, which sees an average maximum temperature of 3.9 degrees and an average minimum temperature of -7.5 degrees.

Thursday’s temperature was also more than 50 degrees Celsius warmer than the all-time coldest Nov. 13, which came in at -32.2 degrees in 1955.

Night-owl Hatters may also have enjoyed the auroras Tuesday and Wednesday night, visible across Canada amid a strong solar storm this week.
