Don Mattingly leaves Blue Jays after three seasons as bench coach

By Canadian Press on November 6, 2025.

TORONTO — Don Mattingly will not return to the Toronto Blue Jays’ coaching staff next season, ending his three-year stint with the Major League Baseball team.

The Blue Jays confirmed Mattingly’s departure Thursday.

The 64-year-old Mattingly served as bench coach in Toronto and helped guide the Blue Jays to their first World Series appearance in 32 years this past season.

The Blue Jays lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games, denying Mattingly a first career title.

Mattingly was a six-time all-star over a 14-year playing career with the New York Yankees and served as manager of the Dodgers and the Miami Marlins for a combined 12 seasons, but had never been to the Fall Classic before this year.

Mattingly was named one of eight candidates on the Baseball Hall of Fame Contemporary Era Player Ballot earlier this week.
