GARRY DERINGER January 15, 1948 ~ October 30, 2025
Mr. Garry Peter Deringer passed away in Havenview at South Country Village in Medicine Hat on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the age of 77 years. Garry’s memory will be forever cherished by his loving mother, Margaret Deringer and siblings, Brenda Walker, Tim (Michelle) Deringer and Mark (Trisha) Deringer. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews including Damon (Melaine) Walker, Brandon Walker, Chanteal Deringer, and Shaylene (Pete) Boeve; great-nieces and nephews including Madison, Mercayde (Eric), Dayja, Mason, Raven, Tate and Preston as well as numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his father in 2018, Peter Deringer.
Garry was born in Medicine Hat and raised in Bow Island. Over the years, he worked at a variety of roles in Bow Island, Suffield and Medicine Hat for numerous downtown business owners and the Dunmore Road Dairy Queen where they treated him very well as he earned a reputation for his strong work ethic. An avid sports enthusiast, Garry was quick-witted and excelled at hockey, baseball, and many other sports. He was especially passionate about coaching as well sharing his knowledge and love of the game with young players in Pee Wee hockey, baseball, and basketball. Garry was a true “car guy” who enjoyed spending time talking about and admiring vehicles of all kinds. His humor, energy and easygoing spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish, 1451 Strachan Road S.E., Medicine Hat on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Fernando Genogaling celebrant. Private Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery with family joining friends thereafter in the Holy Family Parish Hall. LAURIE SOMMERFELD

LAURIE SOMMERFELD 1970 ~ 2025
It is with great sadness that the family of Laurie Scott Sommerfeld of Medicine Hat, Alberta, beloved husband of Terina Pettyjohn Sommerfeld, announce his passing on November 1, 2025, at the age of 55 years, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Laurie was born on September 7, 1970, in Medicine Hat, Alberta, to Edgar and Marcia Sommerfeld. He attended Webster Niblock Elementary School and Crescent Heights High School. As a child, Laurie enjoyed baseball, roller skating and music. Most of his life he was an avid comic book reader/collector, WWE wrestling fan, Star Trek lover, and very into anything Sci-fi.
Laurie loved spending time with his family on countless adventures-skiing, boating, camping, and fishing-and especially treasured summers at the family cabin on Versailles Lake in northern Saskatchewan, reached by pontoon plane. A memorable highlight of his life was traveling to Germany with his family in 1994, where he explored his roots and culture.
Laurie began his career with Culligan Water in 1994, where he worked faithfully for over three decades. Known affectionately as “The Culligan Man,” he took great pride in his work and was often seen wearing his signature shirt that read, “Friends don’t let friends drink tap water.”
Laurie had a lifelong passion for cooking, a skill lovingly passed down from his Oma Voss. His family fondly nicknamed him “The Midnight Baker” because he was often found in the kitchen late at night creating delicious treats.
Laurie was previously married to Leanne Ingram, with whom he shared three children: Amber Ivie (born 1995), Nate Sommerfeld (born 1997), and Hannah Sommerfeld (born 2000).
In 2004, Laurie met the love of his life, Terina Pettyjohn, and the two were married in Banff, Alberta in 2008. Together, they welcomed two children, Lukas Sommerfeld (born 2009) and Alissa Sommerfeld (born 2015). Laurie and Terina shared a deep bond, many laughs and a love of travel, enjoying many memorable trips to Las Vegas numerous times, Banff, Waterton, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. Every summer they spent family time out at Elkwater.
Above all, Laurie will be remembered for his incredible sense of humor. He had an unmatched gift for making people laugh, and his quick wit and funny personality left lasting impressions on everyone he met. He always went the extra mile to bring a smile to those around him.
Laurie is survived by his loving wife, Terina Pettyjohn Sommerfeld; his five cherished children, Amber, Nate, Hannah, Lukas, and Alissa; his brother, Alex Brett Sommerfeld; his parents, Edgar and Marcia Sommerfeld; his father-in-law, Terry Pettyjohn; his brothers-in-law, Royce Pettyjohn, Cal Pettyjohn and Alex Pettyjohn (Karla) and his nephews, Ethyn and Koltyn Pettyjohn.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, Oma and Friedrich Voss and Grandpa and Grandma Lawrence; his mother-in-law, Debra Pettyjohn as well as his lifelong friend Greg Standing.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 515 Sprague Way SE, Medicine Hat, with Pastor Ken Edel officiating.
Following the service, a Celebration of Life will take place at the Medicine Hat Lodge Ballroom Facility, 1051 Ross Glen Drive SE. All who knew and loved Laurie are welcome to attend and share memories.

LARRY TREKOFSKI 1938 ~ 2025 Larry Leverne Trekofski of Edmonton, beloved husband of Noreen Trekofski (nee Ford), passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at the age of 87 years. Loving father of Lori Lynn Penny (Keith), Byron Trekofski (Nina Kovach) and late Darwin Trekofski (Emily Zheng). Cherished grandfather of Afton, Amalia, Aris, Aja, Finn and Maya. He will be sadly missed by his sister Clairie Leitch (late Del) and his brother-in-law Doug Ford (late Karen). Dear uncle of Gaye Grenier, late Crystal Leitch, Jamie Leitch as well as Kilby Kinley, Maureen King, Penny Bohn and Wayne Ford. Larry was predeceased by his parents John and Freida Trekofski (nee Sturm). The memorial service will be held in the Pattison Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Centre on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. with Mark Neubauer officiating.
