newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com A limited number of tickets are on sale for the Unison at Veiner Centres Golden Jubilee Member Celebration, celebrating its 50th anniversary serving aging adults in Medicine Hat. The celebration will include cocktails, dinner and a dance with live country music from The Phoenix Band and will be held in early December. “Dress to impress and enjoy an evening filled with good food, great music, and wonderful company,” reads a social media post. Tickets for the event on Dec. 6 are limited to 300 and cost $10 each at the Veiner Centre. Cocktails begin at 5:30 p.m. with dinner served at 6 p.m. The dance floor will then open from 7-10 p.m. Chair Dancing Later this morning the Veiner Centre is kicking off its six-session Chair Dance Class as part of its Active Aging Fitness programming. Chair dancing is a fun and convenient way to get aerobic exercise while improving co-ordination, muscle tones and flexibility all while sitting in a chair. No experience is required and the class is great for beginners and adults with limited mobility and for anyone looking for a fun, low-impact workout. The classes run for 45 minutes and include instruction and uplifting music and run from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There are still several spots open for members and non-members of the Veiner Centre. Spaces for all six weekly sessions held at the Strathcona Centre cost $42 for the former and $60 for the latter. To register, stop by the Veiner Centre reception desk. Free movie and snacks On Wednesday afternoon members and non-members of the Veiner Centre are invited to a free movie screening of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, which will include free popcorn. No registration is required for the 2 p.m. showing in the Veiner Centre boardroom to watch the thoughtful and emotional movie set during WWII. The free movie event will wrap up at 4 p.m. Christmas Raffle Tickets are now on sale for $5 each to have the opportunity to win a crafted Father Christmas figurine valued at more than $600 during the Father Christmas Raffle. All proceeds raised from the raffle go to support ongoing programming offered by the Veiner Centre. Tickets can be purchased at the reception desk. The winning ticket for the holiday decoration will be drawn during the Veiner Centre’s 50th Anniversary Member Jubilee held Dec. 6. Senior Safety Series Guest speakers from the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society and Medicine Hat Police Service will be participating in an upcoming Senior Safety series aimed at teaching aging adults how to recognize the signs of elder abuse, as well as protect and stay informed on the most common digital threats and scams. Speakers will share valuable insights, practical resources and strategies on family violence awareness and understand cybercrime and today’s threats. The workshop runs from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Nov. 20 in the North MP Room and is free for members and non-members of the Veiner Centre.
