Man charged with arson following grass fire

Neil Christofferson, 39, of Medicine Hat, is facing one count of arson following a weekend fire in an open grassy area near 11th Avenue and Ninth Street SW.

Police and fire crews responded to the fire Saturday, and upon arrival officers were notified Christofferson fled the scene before first responders arrived.

With help from members of the public, police were able to quickly locate and apprehend Christofferson while fire crews responded promptly to the fire.

Christofferson was held for judicial interim release hearing and has been released with a scheduled court date of Nov. 25.

Police thank members of the public for their co-operation and assistance in the matter. No injuries were reported.
