Rockets acquire Penguins prospect Peyton Kettles from Broncos

The Kelowna Rockets have taken another swing via trade as they look to build a Memorial Cup-worthy roster.

The Rockets acquired 2007-born defenceman Peyton Kettles from the Swift Current Broncos in exchange for 2007-born blue liner Jackson Gillespie and a package of five draft picks.

Swift Current receives Regina’s 2027 first-round pick, Wenatchee’s 2026 second-round pick, a 2029 second-rounder and two fourth-round picks coming in the 2026 and 2029 draft. The last three picks all Kelowna’s.

Kettles, a 2025 second-round pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins, has a goal and two points in a pair of games for Swift Current this season. In 118 WHL games he has eight goals and 29 points, adding four assists in 13 career playoff games.

Gillespie has an assist in six games with Kelowna this year. In 113 games across three seasons he has is goals and 23 points on the Rockets’ blue line. He’s also suited up in 11 playoff games.

The Rockets, hosts of the 2026 Memorial Cup, sit 11th in the Western conference with a 4-5-1-1 record, four points back of No. 8 seed Kamloops Blazers (6-7-1-1).
