HALO has been cleared to resume air ambulance patient transfer, according to CEO Paul Carolan.

HALO is the only dedicated helicopter emergency medical service program in southern Alberta. HALO was ordered to temporarily cease air ambulance services by Emergency Health Services after an incident in September.

Service was suspended while EHS conducted a review of the incident, which Carolan described at the time as an “operational matter during a patient transfer.” EHS described the cause of the suspension as a “safety incident.”

HALO was still providing its other services, including search and rescue and wildfire response, during the suspension.

“We’re not elaborating, as we’re still working with Emergency Health Services. So while the answer is yes (service has been restored), we’re not in a position to make a public announcement yet.”

Carolan declined to comment on when the air ambulance was able to resume service. He said that further information will be released shortly, with an update coming as soon as next week.
