Cubs pick up pair of wins in weekend sweep

The Medicine Hat Cubs swept a weekend slate for the first time this season.

The local Jr. B club won 4-1 on the road Friday, taking down the High River Flyers before beating the Strathmore Wheatland Kings 5-1 on Saturday at the Kinplex.

In the win Friday, Mason Osinski had a pair of goals, Nolen Sutherland had a goal and an assist and Jesse Klimosko scored a solo tally. Kayne Wright made 16 saves in the victory.

Captain Kyle Woolridge led the offence with a pair of goals in Saturday’s win. Three skaters, Sutherland, Jacob Hazzard and Austin Derzaph each tallying a goal and an assist. Randen collier had three assists, Wright stopped 14 shots.

The Cubs (7-4-1-) sit second in the South division and have a pair of divisional games this weekend. They’ll head to Okotoks on Friday to face the Bisons before hosting the Cochrane Generals on Saturday at the Kinplex. That game gets underway at 6 p.m.
