Medicine Hat News The Medicine Hat Tigers couldn’t hold on Friday night. They led the Kamloops Blazers 4-2 with 8:36 left in the game before surrendering a pair to force overtime, falling 5-4 in the extra frame. It’s the third loss of the B.C. division trip, they recorded a 6-3 win Wednesday over the Prince George Cougars. The Tigers were without defenceman Bryce for a second-straight game, the captain out of the lineup due to illness. They’ve also been without fellow 19-year-old blue liner Jonas Woo for the entirety of the B.C. division trip and they’ve missed overage defenceman Josh Van Mulligen since the first game of the season. A scoreless first period saw the Tigers outshoot Kamloops 10-6. The two teams traded chances in the second period, kicked off with a WHL milestone. Tigers’ defenceman Tyson Moss took a cross-ice pass from Markus Ruck in the Blazers’ end of the ice and after holding onto the puck, unleashed a shot over the shoulder of Logan Edmonstone to open the scoring with his first WHL goal. Dayton Reschny had the second assist on the Port Moody, B.C. product’s goal, giving Medicine Hat a 1-0 lead 1:30 into the middle frame. The Blazers tied it up 6:09 later after a stretch of power play time. Kamloops had a five-on-four before getting 28 seconds of five-on-four time with the Tigers killing off both penalties. Soon after, Jordan Keller found the back of the net to tie the game up at 1-1 at 7:39. The Tigers gabbed their second lead of the period 25 seconds later. Gavin Kor created a turnover behind the Blazers’ net and Yaroslav Bryzgalov fed Misha Volotovskii left all alone in front who scored for the 2-1 lead at 8:04. Medicine Hat led the game in shots 19-17 after 40 minutes. They continued the offence in the third as the two teams trade goals. The Tigers grabbed a two-goal lead with Volotovskii’s second of the night. He carried the puck into the Blazers’ end, dropping off for Kor who left the puck for Moss at the point. The 18-year-old blue liner threw the puck towards the net where Volotovskii redirected it five-hole past Edmonston to lead 3-1 8:17 into the third. Volotovskii’s goal was his eighth of the season. Kamloops drew within one at 9:14 as Kayd Ruedig scored off a turnover, capitalizing on a puck that squirted to the front of the Tigers’ net, scoring his third of the year. For the second time in the third, Medicine Hat grabbed a two-goal lead. Ethan Neutens, making his season debut after missing 12 games with injury, carried the puck into the Kamloops end. He put the puck on net, creating a rebound for Noah Davidson who cleaned up the loose puck to score his fifth of the season, putting Medicine Hat ahead 4-2 at 11:24. The Blazers mounted a comeback in the second half of the third period. A high sticking penalty followed by a delay of game minor put the Tigers on a five-on-three penalty kill where Keller scored his second of the night, seventh on the year to make it a 4-3 game at 14:29. They tied the game up in the last minute. JP Hurlbert fired a shot on net that bounced off Tommy Lafreniere’s skate and past Carter Casey to tie the game up at 4-4 with 50 seconds left. The Blazers forced overtime with Medicine Hat leading the game in shots 29-25. In the extra frame, Kyle Heger had the closest opportunity for the win with a pair of chances. Kamloops completed the comeback 2:56 into the extra frame. Isa Guram skated into the Tigers’ end and beats Casey to play hero, securing a 5-4 comeback win for Kamloops. Casey made 21 saves in the loss. Across the ice from him, Edmonstone made 26 stops. The Blazers were 1-5 on the power play, Tigers held scoreless on their lone man advantage. They won the face-off battle over the Blazers, 34-26. The Tigers (8-4-1) head to Kelowna on Saturday to face the 2026 Memorial Cup host Rockets. 19
