asmith@medicinehatnews.com An evening of music and tribute to those passed, St. John’s Presbyterian Church is hosting a Memorial Hymn Concert this Sunday. “People have chosen songs to be dedicated to companions or the faithfulness of those who have gone before us,” said organizer Helen Snortland. “It’s being performed just prior to All Saint’s Day, so it ties in to that as well.” A variety of musicians have volunteered to help with the memorial hymn sing, including Julia McClung on flute, Christine Bootland on cello, Patricia Swan, Allie Kapcala and Kyle Church for vocals and Bill Taylor on saxophone. The music was selected and funded by the congregation and community and comes together to roughly an hour and a half of music, says Snortland. The hymns will be dedicated to loved ones throughout the program. “If you’re looking for an evening of congregational singing, there’s some of that and the choir is singing some of the songs,” said Snortland. “So if you’re looking to come and sing along with some of the older hymns and listen to some fantastic local musicians, come by, it’s open for everyone.” The program will begin at 7 p.m. on Sunday, at St. John’s Presbyterian Church. All interested are encouraged to attend. 8
