sports@medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews The Medicine Hat U19 Mustangs had a back and forth, up and down weekend at the Moose Rec Centre. The ringette club hosted the Airdrie Lightning for a doubleheader on Oct. 18. In the first game, the Mustangs lost 5-4. Ryleigh Jackiw and Leighton Wright each had two goals in the loss. The offensive effort was complemented by assists from Jayna Allchurch, Sutton Provost, Avi Velichko, Jackiw and Reese Tabor. The Mustangs delivered a commanding 7-2 victory over Airdrie in the second game. Kasey Martin netted back-to-back goals, Kensie Provost scored twice and additional goals came from Jackiw, Velichko and Wright. Kyree Stern-Rebmann, stood tall in both games, keeping the Mustangs competitive. The team travels to Calgary this upcoming weekend for more league games. U16 The U16B Mustangs put together a team effort on Saturday morning, skating to a 9-4 victory over Foothills U16B in High River. The Mustangs came out firing and built momentum throughout the game. Breanna Lanuk led the way offensively with a five-goal performance and one assist, while Lacey Gibney added two goals and four assists. Margot Kerr chipped in with a pair of goals and an assist and Rielle Forsyth, Madison Helgeson, Onyka Funk, Tia Van Maarion and Jillian Stodalka all had assists. Goaltenders Emma Pinnell and Jacqueline LeBlanc split time evenly between the pipes for Medicine Hat, backstopping a defensive unit that kept Foothills to the outside for much of the game. The Mustangs played Calgary South on Saturday afternoon at WinSport Arena, falling 12-6. Lanuk led the charge offensively with three goals, Kerr added two goals and two assists. Gibney also tallied one goal and three assists and Onyka Funk, Addison Mastel and Myah Weber each picked up helpers to round out the scoring. Despite the high-powered push from Calgary South in the later periods, the Mustangs battled until the final buzzer. Goaltenders Pinnell and LeBlanc shared the net. The U16B Mustangs return to action next weekend in Calgary. U14 The U14B Mustangs played their first home games of the season on Saturday against Airdrie. They opened the scoring in the first game but couldn’t hold the lead, ultimately falling 8-5. Kassidy Etienne scored three times for Medicine Hat. Jorja Sadler and Brinley Cross each had a goal. Arika McDowall and Rielle Forsythet each had two assists and Etienne and Rhya Weinberger each had one. Danna-Lee Sawchuk was in net for the Mustangs. The Airdrie Sting came out strong in the second game, outscoring the Mustangs 11-2. Sadler and Etienne each scored once. Cross and Etienne each had an assist, grace Stirling was between the pipes. Next up for the U14 Mustangs is two league games in Calgary on Nov 1. 20
