SAHA Roundup: U18 female prep capture Minnesota tournament title

The South Alberta Hockey Academy’s U18 female prep team returned from a weekend in Minnesota as champions.

They took first place in the U19 White division of the Tradition NIT tournament hosted in Blaine, Minn. SAHA opened the four-game weekend with the lone loss, falling 2-1 Friday to the Culver Academy Prep.

Riley Bourque scored SAHA’s lone goal, Mika Yokota made 23 saves.

They rebounded with a pair of shutout wins Saturday, beating the U19 Washington Pride and the U19 Madison Capitols 1-0.

Sara Stefanic scored in the win over Washington and Teylor Crocker scored in the victory over the Capitols. Phoenix Buckler made 11 saves in the shutout win over Washington, Yokota stopped all eight shots the Capitols mustered.

SAHA captured the tournament title with a 2-0 win Sunday over the U19 Shattuck St. Mary’s. Hallie Parada and Sara Murdoch scored for SAHA and Buckler stopped all 28 shots for the third straight shutout win.

They’ll head on the road this weekend for a pair of games, Saturday and Sunday, against the Edge School.

U18

SAHA’s U18 men’s team had two road games this weekend, recording a pair of wins.

They beat Pilot Mound Academy 4-2 Friday and topped RINK Winnipeg 6-1 on Saturday.

Kutcher Aquila had a goal and two assists in the win Friday. Sully Kufflick, Damen Vanderberg and Ryker Klassen each found the back of the net. Cash Christie made 25 saves in the win.

Carson Ward led the offence in the win Saturday, scoring twice. Both Kingston Chisholm and Aquila had a goal and an assist, Karter Kurpjuweit and Ben Hordichuk each scored a solo tally. Hunter Zawislak made 23 saves.

SAHA’s U18 men’s team next scheduled CSSHL game comes Oct. 31 against the Notre Dame Hounds before they face the Prairie Hockey Academy and Hounds again on Nov. 1 and 2.

U15

SAHA’s U15 men’s team had two home games against the Northern Alberta Xtreme, dropping both.

They lost 7-1 Saturday and fell 5-1 on Sunday.

Nash Davis scored for SAHA on Saturday, Cole Anderson started the game making five saves in the first. Patrick Curtis made 26 saves across two periods.

Rowan Oddie scored on Sunday, Patrick made 35 saves.

The U15 men’s team will host the Edge school on Friday at the Big Marble Go Centre, puck drop at 7:45 p.m.
