The Medicine Hat Boxing Club kicked off a new season over the weekend.
The local boxing club sent two fighters, Rylan McCulloch and Jacob Walne to Fort Belknap, Mont. over the weekend.
Boxing Club coach Kerry Fahlman says McCulloch’s opponent backed out and the Hat boxer ended up doing a sparring session with three-time U.S. champion Taliyah Rodriquez from Billings, Mont.
“A great experience for the less experienced Rylan,” Fahlman said.
Walne lost a “very close split decision” to Jordan Gardapee from Great Falls in the open 60kg match.
The next action for the Medicine Hat Boxing Club is in two weeks as they’ll head to Calgary to compete at the Elite provincials and Bronze Glove held by the Chestermere Boxing Club on Oct. 18 and 19.
