A cyclist was transported to hospital with serious but nonlife-threatening injuries after being hit by a semi-truck on the Trans-Canada Highway last Thursday evening.

Mounties were called to the scene just before 9 p.m. after a semi truck had struck the cyclist in the eastbound lane of Highway 1.

According to witness statements, police say the semi was travelling approximately 105 km/h when it struck a cyclist riding in the righthand lane.

The cyclist was reportedly wearing dark clothing with no lights or reflectors, making them hard to see on the road.

Witnesses and the driver immediately attempted first aid on the cyclist until Brooks firefighters and EMS arrived on scene.

RCMP say the investigation is ongoing.

On Sept. 22, Brooks RCMP released a public safety message to the community following multiple incidents between cyclists and motorists in recent weeks prior to this collision.

Motorcyclist seriously injured in collision with deer

A motorcyclist was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries after spending the night in a ditch after avoiding a deer on the highway.

RCMP were called to the collision at 7:45 a.m. on Sept. 24 near Highway 876 and Range Road 130 after a motorcyclist was found in the ditch by a passing vehicle.

The driver reported that in the previous evening, around 11 p.m., he was travelling home when a deer entered the roadway. In an attempt to avoid the deer, the motorcyclist lost control of his bike and entered the ditch where he remained until the next morning.

RCMP and EMS were able to provide the driver first aid on scene before transferring him to hospital.

Assault with bear spray

A 32-year-old female has been arrested for assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose following a report of an assault involving bear spray on Sept. 25 around 9 a.m.

Upon arrival to the scene, Mounties discovered a male victim in distress who was treated by EMS. RCMP members cleared the residence, but the suspect was not immediately located.

However, a short time later the female suspect was located and arrested. She has since been released with conditions to not have contact or attend the victim’s residence.
