Medicine Hat News The Medicine Hat Tigers’ first road game brought their first speed bump. The Tigers allowed four second period goals Friday to fall 6-3 at Swift Current to the Broncos. Medicine Hat was on the board first, scoring just as a power play expired. A Kyle Heger point shot ricocheted off Swift Current net minder Joey Rocha to overage forward Misha Volotovskii at the side of the crease and he scored his first of the season. Jonas Woo had the second assist as the Tigers lead 1-0 at 14:53. The Broncos responded less than a minute later with a goal from Parker Rondeau. He fired a shot on Tiger’s starter Jordan Switzer that bounced in the crease and was pulled in by Switzer but not before crossing the goal line for the 1-1 score at 15:40. Medicine Hat led the first period in shots, 18-8, held at bay by Rocha. The Broncos responded in the second, scoring four unwatered goals on 10 shots for a quick lead. Sawyer Dingman got the Swift Current party started with a blocker-side goal 9:39 into the period. Just 1:08 later, Noah Kosick fired a shot that bounced off Switzer’s stick, flying up and over the goaltender into the net for a 3-1 lead. That goal ended Switzer’s night with three goals on 14 shots, bringing Carter Casey into the net for his WHL debut. He finished with seven saves. The Broncos gave him a Speedy Creek welcome, scoring a pair of goals on four shots to lead 5-1 after 40 minutes. Trae Wilkie flew into the Tigers end, getting a re-direct on a pass from Connor Dale in the corner, that beat Casey. Swift Current rounded out the period with a power play goal from Zach Pantelakis. They outshot the Tigers 10-8 in the period with the Tigers leading the game in chances, 26-18 after 40 minutes. Swift Current’s run of goals continued into the third period with Dingman scoring on a power play 4:06 into the frame. His second of the game gave the Broncos a 2/3 run on the power play. The Tigers broke up the scoring run 1:25 later while shorthanded. Bryce Pickford and Jonas Woo skated up ice on a two-on-one with Woo scoring his second fo the season. Pickford found the back of the net himself a little over three and a half minutes alter. The Tigers’ captain threw a puck on net from the point, scoring through traffic for his third of the season. Veeti Väisänen, in his first game of the season, and Dayton Reschny had the assists. Swift Current held on for their second win of the season. The Tigers outshot the Broncos 36-24 in the loss, winning 32 face-offs to Swift Current’s 30. They were held scoreless on four power plays. Rocha finished his night with 33 saves in the Swift Current net. The Tigers (1-1) host the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday at Co-op Place, puck drop at 7 p.m. 16
