Fifth Avenue Memorial United Church is inviting residents to come experience community over a meal with their annual turkey supper.
The event is a longstanding tradition, says office administrator Piehl Wiedemann, who estimates the first iteration of the dinner was as far back as the 1950s.
“It’s really good for first of all fellowship for our volunteers, who are members of the church, and because it takes quite a few volunteers to put this together, and then it’s great for the community. They come in and they see people they haven’t seen for ages, and they sit and talk and have a really nice time,” said Wiedemann.
The event has two sittings, one at 5 p.m. and one at 6 p.m. on Oct. 4 at Fifth Avenue Memorial United Church.
The meal is prepared entirely by volunteers. Tickets for the dinner are listed at $25 for adults and $15 for children, and Wiedemann advises those interested to secure them soon at the church office, as they are moving fast.
The office will next be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday.
