A search continues for five-year-old Darius Macdougall, who was last seen walking with his family approximately 2.5 miles south of Crowsnest Pass near Island Lake Campground on Sunday at approximately 11:30 a.m.
Numerous resources, including search helicopters, drones, RCMP dogs and 60-plus ground searchers with Southwest Alberta Region Search and Rescue have been actively searching the area looking for the missing boy, described as 4 feet tall with short brown hair, who was wearing a blue/grey hoodie and sweats.
Mounties say the young boy is on the autism spectrum, which may prevent him from responding to others. At the time he went missing he was out with six other family members and was separated from the group.
Since Macdougall went missing, RCMP have held a press conference seeking any information from residents and reported weather is favourable, and search efforts will continue day and night in Alberta and in B.C.
During the press conference Monday afternoon, held at Tent Mountain off Highway 3, it was asked if community members should volunteer to assist search efforts. Mounties say while they appreciate the offer, it may interfere with the search as there are processes in place and it may contaminate the area.
RCMP are asking anyone with information about Macdougall’s whereabouts to contact the Crowsnest Pass RCMP detachment at 403-562-2866 or anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
