Lethbridge man charged after chasing man with knife, axe in Medicine Hat

Four charges have been laid after Medicine Hat police responded to a report of a male being chased by another male armed with a knife and an axe on Tuesday.

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. at the 800 block of 14th Street NE.

When officers responded to the call, the suspect was armed with both weapons and confronted the officers and the complainant in an aggressive manner. After the suspect refused to lay down his weapons, officers deployed a less lethal projectile round. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody without incident, where he received an assessment by EMS personnel.

The officers and the victim were not injured in the incident. The suspect sustained minor injuries.

Following an investigation, a 45-year-old man from Lethbridge was charged with break and enter to commit assault with a weapon, assault, uttering threats and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.

The investigation also determined that the suspect was known to the victim.
