CINCINNATI (AP) — Cincinnati Reds right-hander Hunter Greene has a no-hitter through six innings against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday night. The Reds are leading 1-0. Greene has five strikeouts and one walk. He has thrown 68 pitches. The last Reds pitcher to toss a no-hitter was Wade Miley on May 7, 2021, in a 3-0 win over the Guardians. Greene retired the first 12 batters he faced before Moises Ballesteros reached on a fielding error by shortstop Elly De La Cruz to begin the fifth. Cincinnati pitchers have thrown 17 no-hitters in franchise history. The Cubs went nearly 50 years without being no-hit until the Phillies’ Cole Hamels did it in 2015. They have only been held hitless seven times in their history. They clinched a postseason berth with an 8-4 victory in Pittsburgh on Wednesday and popped champagne in the clubhouse afterward. The celebration continued when they arrived in Cincinnati later that night, according to manager Craig Counsell. ___ AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/mlb Jeff Wallner, The Associated Press 12
