The City of Medicine Hat is encouraging residents who want to make a difference and have an impact on the community to apply for several open positions on city boards, city commissions and working groups.

The city has positions open on eight different agencies and is accepting applications to fill these positions until the middle of October.

These positions provide citizens an opportunity to share perspectives and provide input on key issues that influence the direction of the city through committee approval and board decisions.

Members sitting on these agencies also enhance their own knowledge of their community.

Three positions are open on the municipal planning commission, which holds meetings each month and advises and recommends land-use planning matters to members of council.

The Community Library Advisory Board, which meets each month, is seeking five individuals to help advise the council on issues contributing to a vibrant community.

Four positions are open to sit on the Medicine Hat Public Library Board, which meets monthly for two hours, for regulation and control of library and other advocacy work.

Eight positions are open to assist with the promotion, preservation and retention of local heritage on the Working Group for the Heritage Resources, which meets on the second Thursday of every month.

Up to six positions are open on the Working Group for Accessibility and Inclusion, which advises and supports city departments on issues related to a person’s physical, developmental and mental health disabilities.

One position is open on the combative sports commission, which acts in regulatory capacity for committee and council with respect to regulating, governing and controlling combative sports.

The Assessment Review Board is seeking to fill three positions. This board listens to property assessment applications for residential, farmland and commercial property.

The Subdivision and Development Appeal Board is seeking to fill two positions. This board hears apples from development authority and some bylaw orders.

Applicants are asked to review the application handbook before applying. The city is encouraging applicants to include a 90-second video to highlight your strengths and to introduce yourself.

Application forms can be found on the city’s website and must be submitted before 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 14.
