newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Sharpen those skates, public skating returns Sept. 15 to the more than 50-year-old Rec-Tangle in Redcliff following some offseason renovations. From noon to 1:00 p.m. next Monday the ice will be open for the first time this season for public skating. Moving forward, public skating times will be posted on the town’s website. There will be no public skating Sept. 30 or Oct. 13. The arena will also be closed to public skating on certain dates from November to the end of the year. Back in March, Premiere Danielle Smith visited the arena to present the Redcliff Minor Hockey Association a cheque for funding to help enhance the facility’s efficiency and longevity. The funding of $740,000 from the Community Facility Enhancement Program grant was matched by the town for the total of $1.41 million to replace the aging ice-making equipment in the arena. The upgrades were part of the second phase of plans to enhance the facility for the community. Last year, during the first phase of arena upgrades, the town replaced the boards around the ice as well as the brine lines underneath the ice surface. 9
