I am thrilled to be joining the team at the Medicine Hat News.

Born and raised in Brampton, Ont., I discovered my passion for journalism after moving to Ottawa in 2018 to study political science and history at the University of Ottawa. There, I joined my campus publication, The Fulcrum, where I served first as features editor and later as news editor. I also spent a summer working for a small-town Ontario newspaper in the Northern Bruce Peninsula.

After graduating in 2022, I pivoted toward history after being offered a job at Canada’s Second World War museum, the Juno Beach Centre. As an exhibitions assistant, I helped develop the museum’s new exhibit on contemporary Canada and had the pleasure of spending several months working from France.

In 2023, I moved to Toronto to attend graduate school at the University of Toronto, where I studied contemporary international history with an emphasis on nuclear weapons policy. In Toronto I resumed my interest in journalism, stringing together research contracts and freelance reporting assignments while serving tables on the side.

As a freelance reporter, I wrote about environment, culture and Canadian history. As a researcher, I worked with Global Affairs Canada to help generate policy recommendations for safeguarding Canadian science against foreign interference.

I also joined the G7 Research Group based at the University of Toronto, where I produced analysis about G7 performance on regional security issues, including nuclear weapons control. I remain affiliated with the group as a senior researcher.

In my joint capacities as researcher and reporter I attended this year’s G7 summit in Kananaskis. It was after this compelling introduction to the Alberta media landscape that I sought out a reporting position in the province, which has happily brought me here to the News.

As an avid traveller and hiking enthusiast, I am also thrilled to live near the beautiful Cypress Hills, and only three short hours from the Rocky Mountains.

My foremost interests as a writer are politics, energy and the environment. The City of Medicine Hat offers a rich and evolving intersection of all three. I look forward to discovering this community and reporting on one of the most dynamic regions in the country.
