Two individuals have been charged with several offences after Brooks RCMP and members of the AGLC TEU South (Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Tobaccos Enforcement Unit) seized more than 1,600 cartons of contraband cigarettes.

Mounties executed a search warrant on a home in Brooks last Wednesday on Sept. 3 that led to the seizure of 1,603 cartons of contraband cigarettes and 72 tubes of shisha tobacco (250 grams in each tube) that retail a total value of close to $300,000.

RCMP say two individuals have been charged with seven offences in relation to fraud and possession for the purpose of sale of contraband tobacco.

No court details have been released at this time.

Car v. motorcycle

The driver of a motorcycle was transported to a Calgary hospital by STARS with non-life-threatening injuries following a collision with a car on Township Road No. 212, east of Highway 36 on Sept. 6.

Upon arrival shortly after 5:25 p.m. officers found the Duchess Fire Department providing medical aid to an injured adult male motorcyclist as STARS Air Ambulance was en route.

The initial investigation revealed the driver of the car was attempting a left-hand turn onto a service road when the motorcycle collided with the driver’s side of the vehicle.

Mounties say alcohol and speed are not considered factors in this collision.

Police seeking assault suspect

Mounties are working to identify a man who grabbed and tried to forcefully kiss a female walking on the Lake Stafford walking path.

Police were notified of the assault on Sept. 5 after the female reported a male began asking her numerous intrusive personal questions while walking, and at one point, grabbed her hand and kissed her arm and face.

The female was able to pull away from the male and told him his behaviour was not acceptable, and then reported the incident.

Police say the male is described as light brown, 5’8″ with a slim face, brown eyes and was riding a dark blue bike.

RCMP say they are working to identify the suspect.

Single vehicle collision

A driver of a van was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries on Sept. 6 at 3:20 p.m. after it hit a tree, causing the vehicle to roll along Silver Sage Road.

According to witnesses, the van was travelling westbound when it suddenly veered off into a field before re-entering the highway, crossing into the opposite ditch before striking a tree.

Mounties say the cause of the collision remains under investigation.
