The weekend tournament saw open and doubles competition spread across 11 divisions with men’s and women’s action. There were two new winners crowned in the men’s and ladies’ division. In the Men’s Open singles, Brent Meyer defeated Thomas Fentabil (6-1,6-0). Geoff Paulgaard def Dave Reinheller (6-4,6-3) to take the Men’s B division. The men’s Intermediate A class was won by Andrew Quiring who defeated Darryl Giesbrecht (6-2,6-4). David Schnare won the Men’s Intermediate B class, defeating Matthew MacPheat (6-3,6-3). The Ladies Open Singles division was won by Aarren Russell, defeating Dawn Olson (6-4,6-2). In the Ladies B division, Coralee Riehl defeated Tracy Heller (6-2,6-3). Richard and Brent Meyer captured the Men’s Doubles Open crown, defeating Mason and Calvin Heller (7-6,6-0). In the Men’s B Doubles division, Mike and Thomas Fentabil defeated Messele Fentabil and Dave Reinheller (6-2,6-3). Four teams placed in the Men’s Intermediate Doubles. Easton Kurpjuweit and Zack Day took first place, David Schnare and Darryl Giesbrecht finished second, Noel Thomas and Lorne Pretzlaw were third and Johnathon and Neil Gazdag finished fourth. In the women’s Open Doubles division, Aarren Russell and Dawn Olson captured first place, defeating Tracy Heller and Lauren Danroth (6-1,6-1). The Women’s B division was won by Coralee Riehl and Emilee Krushel who defeated Irene Giesbrecht and Reina Schibler (6-3,6-0). Up next for the Medicine Hat Tennis Club is the Mixed Doubles Championship Sept. 4-6. 16
