Brooks RCMP identify human remains as 20-year-old missing woman

Following an autopsy Friday, police have identified human remains found Thursday as 20-year-old Fatima Ahmed, who had been reported missing Aug. 15. Police are seeking information in the ongoing investigation.--HANDOUT PHOTO

RCMP in Brooks say 20-year-old Fatima Ahmed has been identified as the deceased person following the discovery of human remains Wednesday evening in the alley near Southshore Drive.

“RCMP send condolences to Fatima’s family and friends,” reads a media release.

Ahmed, a resident of Brooks, was originally reported missing a day after she was last seen in Brooks on Aug. 15. Alberta RCMP released details seeking information into her disappearance over social media on Aug. 18.

Police say the autopsy was completed Friday at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the cause of death is pending. RCMP say the investigation is ongoing.

Brooks RCMP are seeking information related to the investigation and are asking anyone with information to call their detachment at 403-794-4400.
