WCBL finals underway

The Western Canadian Baseball League championship is one day closer to being awarded.

The WBCL finals kicked off Thursday night with the Regina Red Sox hosting the Sylvan Lake Gulls for Game 1 of the best-of-three championship series.

Game 1 was not complete by press time. The rest of the series, Game 2 and Game 3 if needed, are in Sylvan Lake due to the Gulls being the higher seed. Game 2 is tonight and a potential Game 3 would be Saturday.

Regina enters the finals for the first time since 2019 when they made back-to-back finals, losing in both years. They’re playing for the franchise’s third Harry Hallis Memorial Trophy. The Gulls have made the playoffs in all five seasons of the franchise’s existence and are making their first trip to the league finals.
