The Medicine Hat Mavericks lost their last game of the 2025 WCBL regular season.

The Mavs scored four runs in the ninth inning Monday in a comeback bid that fell short, a 7-5 road loss to the Saskatoon Berries. It’s a fourth straight loss for the Mavs who finish with a 2-4 record on their six-game season-ending road trip and end the season with a 34-21 record.

Medicine Hat opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning off the bat of Carter Roth.

Saskatoon grabbed a 2-1 lead in the third inning on a two-run home run from Jalen Freeman. The Berries lead grew in the fourth, scoring four runs on two hits, two walks and a hit by pitch. Saskatoon capped off their offensive day with a run in the eight on a single to centre field for a 7-1 lead.

The Mavs four runs in the ninth came right away. They loaded the bases with one out and a run scored on a groundout from Tyler Vanneste. Two more runs scored on an error by the Saskatoon third baseman on a knock from Roth. Adam Vulcano had a single to reload the bases for Blake Dale who scored a run with a single to left field to make it a 7-5 game.

The Berries walked Jaden Babiuk to load the bases for a third time in the inning, striking out Nate King for the final out of the game.

Zack Hlinksy started the game on the mound for the Mavs, working two innings allowing three hits. Luke Barrientos took over on the mound, working into the fourth, charged with six runs (five earned) on three hits and two walks with one strikeout. Tyler Cutler took over, recording the final out of the fourth and working the fifth, striking out a pair.

Adam Vulcano took the mound to start the sixth, allowing just one hit and a walk, recording a strikeout. Vanneste got onto the mound for a second inning this summer, allowing an unearned run on two hits, recording a strikeout.

The Mavs are off until Wednesday when they host the Regina Red Sox at Athletic Park for Game 1 of their best-of-three, semifinal matchup. First pitch at 7:05 p.m., tickets are available on the Mavs’ website or at the team’s ticket office.
