On Friday, Cypress County announced four scholarships and bursaries worth $1,000 each, available for high school students planning to pursue higher education.

The county council is offering two $1,000 scholarships which are targeted toward students pursuing technical programs.

Applicants must register to commence their first year of studies at the recognized post-secondary institution and must be residing in Cypress County and attending high school.

Applications for the scholarships must be received by Sept. 30 and must include a completed application form and letter, official transcripts of high school marks and a letter of acceptance from a post-secondary institution.

The applications will be received by a committee appointed by council and successful applicants will be selected based upon a combination of “demonstrated citizenship and community involvement, academic performance, completeness of the scholarship application form.”

Two $1,000 bursaries are also available to high school students seeking to continue their education in the fields of agricultural, agri-tech or environmental related programs.

The awards are provided by the Agricultural Service Board and follow similar application requirements to the above scholarships.

The deadline for the ASB bursaries is also Sept. 30, and members of the board will award the two bursaries upon a review of the application and based on scholastic standing, social and community activities.
