The United Conservative Caucus is investing more than $1 million into Cypress County, as part of a larger support effort for rural Alberta.

“This investment is great news for our region. By investing in our local utility infrastructure, we are investing in the future wellbeing of our communities,” said Justin Wright, Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Health in the South Zone and MLA for Cypress-Medicine Hat.

Alberta’s rural communities are growing, increasing the need for reliable and effective infrastructure to support economic development and a high quality of life, says the United Conservative Caucus.

As such, $114.6 million is being provided to municipalities throughout the province for local road, bridge and water infrastructure projects.

In Cypress, this means support for the County’s Seven Persons Sewer Force Main replacement.

The funding will be distributed through the Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program, Alberta Municipal Water/Wastewater Partnership and Water for Life programs.

STIP provides grants to small and rural municipalities to maintain and improve local road bridges, community airports and local resource roads, says the UCP Caucus. The AMWWP and Water for Life program provide grants to municipalities to assist in the construction of high-priority municipal water supply and treatment facilities, as well as wastewater treatment and disposal facilities.

“Rural communities are vital to Alberta’s success. In Budget 2025, we are making targeted investments through the Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program and our water grant funding programs to ensure rural communities across the province have effective transportation and water infrastructure to support their continued growth and prosperity,” said Devin Dreeshen, Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors.

This funding is included in Budget 2025 and is part of the Alberta government’s commitment to supporting rural and small municipalities.
