The Bow Island Health Centre emergency department will be closed this weekend, due to continued lack of staff. This is part of an ongoing clinical personnel shortage and an inability to secure regular and consistent coverage, which for this coming weekend means they will be closed for the remainder of the week. Acute care admissions will also be paused during this time, but it is expected that the clinic will retain its current hours of 7 a.m. Fridays to 7 a.m. Mondays beginning Aug. 8. During the temporary closure, nursing staff will remain on site to provide care for long-term care residents. Alberta Health Services is actively recruiting for positions in the community and working to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time. Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency, where EMS will respond and assist in transport to inter-facility transfers to neighbouring sites. Those seeking care can also travel to Taber Health Centre or the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, which are both 57 km away. Those seeking health advice that is not urgent in nature are encouraged to call Health Link at 811, which is available at all hours for non-emergency, health-related questions, or to visit their primary health-care provider for non-emergency medical care. AHS says it is thankful for the support of surrounding health-care centres and medical staff, and would thanks the community for its patience and understanding during this time. 9
