Mavs record win No. 34 with 7-1 road victory Thursday

The Medicine Hat Mavericks extended their win streak to eight games with a win Thursday.

The Mavs won 7-1 on the road over the Swift Current 57s, surpassing their win total from 2024 with four games left on the schedule.

Swift Current opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, getting on the board with a solo home run off the bat of Wilmer Henriquez, his league-leading 14th.

The Mavs responded in the top of the third with an RBI single from Yusei Uzawa. He drove in Blake Dale who led off the frame with a double. They added three more runs in the top of the fourth for a 4-1 lead.

Carter Roth led off the inning with a solo home run on the second pitch he saw, launching his fifth home run of the season. The Mavs added two more on a single from Micah Dvorak, driving in a pair of runners.

On the mound, Danny Retzlaff started the game for the Mavs, working four innings allowing the one run on five hits, striking out eight. Garrick Levesque pitched three innings, facing the minimum while recording three strikeouts. David Heinen threw the last two innings of the game, allowing a hit in the ninth, recording one strikeout.

The Mavs rounded out their night with three runs in the top of the eighth. Adam Vulcano scored a pair with a two-run single and Carter Roth followed that up with an RBI single of his own.

Medicine Hat out-hit Swift Current 14-6.

The Mavs (34-17) head to Weyburn for a pair of games against the Beavers on Friday and Saturday.
